Exercise
-
In general, adults should aim to; do strengthening activities that work all the major muscle groups (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms) on at least 2 days a week, and across the week do a total of 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity activity. Reduce time spent sitting or lying down and break up long periods of not moving with some activity. This can be achieved without needing a gym membership or specialist support, just by walking for half hour trip instead of driving, doing squats or push ups whilst waiting for the kettle to boil, enthusiastically playing a game of tig with your children, or by holding a plank position for 20 seconds at a time, repeated a few times in 5 minutes. Specific advice and suggestions can be found at www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise
