There are some services that the NHS doesn’t commission from GPs, which we charge a fee for. These fees fund the whole surgery, they are not retained by individual doctors.
Referrals
You will not be charged by your GP for making private investigations or referrals.
Prescriptions
There are a few medications which your GP is able to prescribe, but which are not provided by the NHS. The fee for a private prescription is £10, and you will need to also pay the purchase price of the medication at the chemist.
Reports
The NHS does not pay for many of the forms and reports needed for work, insurance, hobbies, exercise and legal processes. The surgery charges fees for this work.
